The number of charity walks, runs, biking, tri and endurance related events has grown into the tens of thousands. You can find an event for any worthy cause you can think of; cancer, diabetes, aids, the hungry, the homeless, animal rescue shelters, domestic violence, school fund raisers, prevent underage drinking, etc. The list goes on and on and on. I have friends that annually participate in the Komen Race for the Cure and other friends that participate in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. Both great causes that I proudly support and make donations to my friend’s effort. But these events don’t always fit into our schedules, don’t fit into our personal goals or are too restrictive in their requirements for fundraising.
What if you could create your own custom event or enter any event you wanted and still raise money for your favorite charity? You can climb the 10 highest peaks in your state or country, run your first ultra marathon, bike solo across America, run your first 10k, ½ marathon or any distance race you pick. With “Worth the Hurt” you will be able to simultaneously raise money for your favorite charity while you train for and accomplish your personal goals.
How it works
To use the new Worth the Hurt fundraising platform is easy as 1-2-3.
- Name your challenge (created by you or a pre-existing organized event).
- Name your charity.
- Share the link to your fundraising campaign team web page with potential donors or other athletes that want to join your team and help raise money for your charity.
Do you have a big goal but need help funding your training and other expenses? When you use the Worth the Hurt fundraising platform for every dollar an you raise, a portion goes directly back to you to help pay for your training, race expenses and to support your fundraising campaign, or you can opt out of the reimbursement option entirely. Athletes are incentivized by Worth the Hurt based on how much they raise.
Worth the Hurt is still in its beta phase. To further test the concept Worth the Hurt will beta test the concept by sponsoring six of running’s most prolific fund-raisers for six Worthy causes throughout the year. These worthy athletes will participate in endurance events towards a broader ultra fundraising goal, inspiring others to form their own ultra campaigns and tell their story. They will come together at various endurance events across the globe to celebrate their accomplishments.
The first celebration event will be the WTH 52.4 Ultramarathon at The Wipro San Francisco Marathon on July 29, 2012, where our WTH Sponsored Athletes will invite other endurance athletes to join their WTH Athlete Team to fundraise for one of six Worthy causes. WTH 52.4 participants will accept an audacious challenge: to run the marathon twice, back-to-back (in opposite directions).

As an added benefit to Trail Running Club readers, Worth the Hurt has invited two (2) of our readers to join a team. There are only 60 runners that will be allowed to participate in this inaugural 52.4 Ultramarathon at the Wipro San Francisco Marathon. Each runner is required to raise a minimum of $1,500 for their team’s charity (teams and their sponsored charities can be found on the Worth the Hurt website).
