Salomon XR Mission

Salomon XR Mission

While a mountain wilderness is an ideal playground for a trail runner to indulge in, most of us do not have the luxury of living near one. We end up running most of our miles on the smooth trails of regional parks, and for many, some miles on the road to and from the trailhead. Salomon XR shoes are designed precisely for such a runner. Salomon XR shoes a responsive fit and feel, the traction and protection of a trail shoe, and the cushy high mileage midsole of a road shoe that make them an ideal choice for an everyday training shoe. Think of them as hybrid trail shoes with pure mountain pedigrees.

FIT: The first thing that you will notice when you lace up a pair of Missions is that fit of the shoe is centered at the arch. The Quicklace combined with the Sensifit does an excellent job of keeping the lacing pressure to the areas of the foot where you want it. The honeycomb Sensiflex material is derived from Salomon EXO compression clothing. It is a stretchy fabric that gives the sides of the forefoot the ability to stretch. This is great for anyone who has a wider forefoot, or whose feet swell during longer runs. The upper is construed out of a highly breathable mesh that will keep your feet cool and dry.

FEEL: My favorite part of the Mission is the midsole. It is constructed out of Salomon’s flexible Light Weight Muscle that keeps the shoe light, soft, and flexible. This translates to a responsive ride that feels great on the roads, and like butter on the trails. Although there is no rock plate, the OS tendon that runs along the outsole of the shoe for energy return (think of it like a rubber band) also does a great job of keeping your feet safe from sharp rocks. The outsole has reverse and forward chevrons for ample traction on uphill and downhill trail, and extends out just the right amount to give you traction on the road without sacrificing durability. It is one of the few trail shoe outsoles that will not be quickly eaten away running on asphalt.

Salomon XR Mission Women's

INTERESTING TO NOTE: Unique and optimized fit for men and women. The women’s version of the shoe has: a women specific last, thicker heel foam to fit a narrower ankle, more and deeper outsole flex groves to accommodate a lighter average weight, and a midsole support piece to help correct midfoot pronation (more common in women).

BEST USES: Perfect for smooth, groomed, and road surfaces.
