Endurance athletes are always looking for portable products to carry with them on long rides, runs and during events. It is vital to keep our body in balance and replace any electrolytes lost during exercise.

I have found this awesome, portable product by Alacer Corp. called Electro Mix. It comes in individual packets for easy carrying and one packet in 20 ounces of water is a great, inexpensive method of staying balanced!

I carry a packet with me on runs in case I bonk and I also put one in my water while running. I have found a big difference in using them.  You can buy an individual packet at Whole Foods if you want to try it. At $1.59 per packet and under $12.00 for a case of 30, it is a great value.

I use GU for carbohydrate replacement during a long run and in marathons. I find they keep me in check and give me a boost of energy. Still, there are times I don’t need carbs, but my electrolytes are off especially on warm days. When I start to feel, light-headed or dizzy, I am beyond the point of depletion, but I have found that even then, if I replenish with Alacer’s ElectroMix, I can continue on feeling good.

Dawn Ciccone is a motivational speaker, athlete, author and creator of the F.I.T.S Training Program. F.I.T.S stands for From Injury To Strength.

It was Dawn's own journey of healing from a horrendous tragedy that made her realize recovery is NOT enough! She needed to apply a process of STRENGTH building to every aspect of her life.

Dawn's life transition was made through a tragic accident that left her wheelchair and home bound. Hit by a car while running, doctors told her she would not walk normally and never run again. Dawn made the decision to find her way back from injury - not just by recovering, but by applying a process of strength building she calls F.I.T.S Training. An athlete herself, Dawn knows the tremendous demands that training has on the body, mind and spirit. She also knows, first-hand, that those demands increase tenfold during injury and through recovery. Training involves retraining your mind and addressing the spiritual side of recovery along with the physical.

It was a long, arduous path, but Dawn rose above the odds and today she offers the process that got her to strength. Maintaining a positive outlook, coupled with courage, determination, and an altruistic attitude, she uses her experience to inspire and encourage others to reach their goals and live authentically.
